Join us for a lecture about the life and work of Fanny Rollo Wilkinson, followed by the unveiling of a blue plaque to celebrate her achievement as the first British female Landscape Gardener. This will be followed by a three course luncheon with wine.

Arrive for morning coffee and homemade biscuits at 10.30am prior to the lecture and unveiling of the plaque. A three-course luncheon with wine will be served, with the event finishing at 3.30pm.

At Middlethorpe Fanny Rollo Wilkinson (1855-1951) was the eldest child of Dr Matthew Wilkinson, a leading Manchester physician and the second husband of Frances Barlow, from whom he inherited Middlethorpe.

As Fanny explained, 'When my father died (in 1878) we went to live at our own place, near York, and there I began to devote myself to gardening in a practical way'. Fanny Wilkinson was the first woman to make a professional career as a landscape gardener.
